Cooking Unit Converter: Cups, Grams, Ounces & Temperatures

A cup of flour does not weigh the same as a cup of sugar, so a single "cups to grams" number is often wrong. Pick your ingredient and we convert using its real weight. Quick charts for spoons, cups and oven temperatures are below the tool.

Frequently asked questions

How many grams are in a cup?

It depends on the ingredient: about 125 g for all-purpose flour, 200 g for sugar, 227 g for butter and 240 g for water. Use the converter above for the exact ingredient.

How many tablespoons are in a cup?

16 tablespoons. A tablespoon is 3 teaspoons, or about 15 ml.

Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?

Nearly. A US cup is about 240 ml and a metric cup is 250 ml. The difference rarely matters outside baking.

Why should I weigh flour?

How you fill a cup changes the amount by up to 20%. Weighing gives the same result every time, which matters most for bread, cakes and cookies.
