Hi, I’m Julia Hernandez, a professional chef, a mom of two, and the cook behind Quick Meals Guide. I started this site for one reason: a good home-cooked dinner should not take hours.
From restaurant kitchens to a family kitchen
I trained at the Culinary Institute of America and spent more than 15 years cooking professionally, much of it in high-end restaurant kitchens. That work taught me technique, speed and how to get big flavor out of simple ingredients.
Then I had kids, and everything changed. Suddenly I had 30 minutes, not three hours, and a table full of people who wanted dinner now. So I started doing what I do best: taking professional recipes apart and rebuilding them for a real home kitchen, a real grocery store and a real weeknight.
Great food doesn’t have to be complicated. Cooking should bring you joy, not stress.

How I develop and test every recipe
- Tested more than once in my own kitchen before it is published.
- Honest timing. The time on a recipe includes the prep, not just the cooking.
- Easy-to-find ingredients from a regular grocery store, and no special equipment.
- The kid test. If my kids won’t eat it, it doesn’t make the site.
My kitchen philosophy
- Technique only where it’s worth it. I’ll tell you when a step really matters, and when you can skip it.
- Shortcuts aren’t cheating. Rotisserie chicken, frozen vegetables and canned beans are your friends.
- Familiar ingredients you already know how to use.
- Flexible recipes that bend for picky eaters, allergies and whatever is left in the fridge.
What you’ll find here
Mostly quick weeknight dinners ready in 30 minutes or less, plus sheet pan and one-pot meals that keep the dishes down, and the occasional slower weekend project when it’s worth it. You can browse by how much time you have, or use our free kitchen tools to find a recipe with what’s already in your fridge, scale it, and build your shopping list.
Outside the kitchen
You’ll find me on the sidelines of my kids’ soccer games, trying a new restaurant with my husband, planning our next camping trip, or tucked into a coffee shop with a good mystery novel. My family shows up a lot in my recipes, usually as the toughest critics at the table.
